Blog Posts

New posts now show up in Discord and Bluesky

Good news for anyone who doesn't want to keep refreshing the blog... every new post here now gets announced automatically in my Discord and on Bluesky!

What you'll see

When a post goes live, a card appears in the Discord channel with:

• The title, linked straight to the post
• A short summary so you know what it's about
• The post's header image
• The topics it's filed under

On Bluesky, the same post shows up as a link card with the title, a short summary and the header image. Every announcement is tagged #NewBlogPost, so you can follow that tag (or mute it) if you only want the blog posts.

Click the title or the card and you land right on the post. No more checking the site to see if anything new is up.

Why bother?

• Never miss an update: news, music picks, that addon you probably didn't know I created reach you where you already hang out.
• Quick to scan: the summary tells you if a post is worth a read right now or later.
• Pick your spot: follow along in Discord, on Bluesky, or both.

Want a say?

If you have ideas for what else should get announced (new gallery uploads, new picks, raid progress milestones), let me know in Discord or on Bluesky and I'll see what's possible.

See you in the channel.

I'm really excited for the launch of WoW Forever, and it's going to be a big part of the gaming on my channel going forward. To get ready, I've added a dedicated Forever category to the Downloads section.

You'll find it under Downloads > World of Warcraft > Forever in the menu, or go straight to the Forever downloads.

What you'll find

It's the addons I use and recommend for Forever, covering the basics like boss timers and error catching, UI upgrades like nameplates and tooltips, and a few quality of life extras. A few highlights:

• BigWigs for boss timers and alerts
• Auctionator for auction house prices and posting
• Platynator for clean, configurable nameplates
• Spoken Everything for AI voiceover on quests, gossip, and books

A note on how downloads work

None of these addons are hosted on this site. Each entry links out to the community download source (CurseForge for all of them right now) so you always get the latest version straight from the author.

What else changed

The Downloads menu is now grouped: Retail, Classic, and Forever under World of Warcraft, with other games like Elder Scrolls Online listed separately. I also retired the old Vanilla and Burning Crusade entries to keep things tidy.

Feedback

Is there an addon you think belongs on the list, or a link that's broken or out of date? Let me know and I'll get it sorted.

See you in Azeroth!

Just did a number of upgrades to various libraries used by the site. Please let me know if there are any issues, especially with styling and buttons or links not working. There were decent version jumps, especially with Boostrap, so it is possible something is failing that I have missed.

Quick update on the recommendations/picks page today.

I have added in a Top Picks section that will be visible at the top. These will, obviously, be the ones I find to be top tier. I wll keep this number small. At this time, I only put a couple there, and will probably rotate things out over time. This is just a good way to draw attention to some of the best things. Note that this section will go away, by design, upon filtering by a category.

Additionally, I populated several additional picks to include books and more YouTube channels. I did drop in some additional games as well.

The challenge I am running into with recommendations, such as books, is that often it will be a series. Do I want to list every book, in this case, individually or just the first book in the series, as I have done for now. The same thing can apply to games, tv, movies, music, etc. Does it make sense for me to list (almost) every Metallica album, for example? I may need to revisit how these are handled and add some additional option for a collection, not just individual recommendation. For now, with some of the books I started linking to additional ones in the series. If anyone has any feedback on a preferred way to handle this feel free to let me know however you talk to me or via the contact page.

Made a few more small updates and bug fixes, primarily focused around the history page.

• Fixed syncing adding incorrect and old raids
• Fixed sequence getting reset on sync
• Fixed main status getting reset on sync
• Added class color to character names in the raids
• Added additional management controls behind the scences

Also made some minor tweaks to the about page tonight.

Additionally, I have recently resolved the sitemap not being updated properly, fixed some contact page issues, and added an rss feed. Sure there is a bunch of other minor stuff I forgot to mention.

I have mostly been working on getting the forums on my old Age of Conan guild site updated, cleaned up, and open again, not that I expect anyone to use them going forward.

Been thinking about some actual topics to post besides site updates here, so I hope to start doing something with that soon.
